The ancient buildings of Pierrot are set in the heart of the French countryside. It is a beautiful area of low, rolling hills covered with orchards and vineyards. The 15th century property is built around a central courtyard, with fifteen acres of surrounding, private parkland. The nearest country road is over 200 metres away! The 2 cottages are about 50 metres apart, each with their own pool and garden. Pierrot sleeps 6 and Colombine sleeps 6/8 - a total of 12 to 14. Ideal for a two-family break.

Near the historic market town of Duras, Pierrot is within an easy drive of the Dordogne valley. The wine chateaux of St. Emilion/Bordeaux and Entre Deux Mers are close by, as are the bastides (fortified towns) of the Guyenne (a region that provided the backcloth to much of the Hundred Years War).

Available locally are golf, tennis, canoeing and horse-riding. Also within a short distance is a large lake with a sandy beach.

As you might expect in this part of France, where local people expect to eat well, there is an abundance of excellent restaurants.

The resident English owners, Peter & Jane Jarvis, who have been welcoming guests to Pierrot for 16 years, are on hand to help you make the most of your stay.

La Legue is roughly 10 minutes away and owned by friends. We act as local agents.

We are only a ½ hour drive from BERGERAC or 1½ hours from BORDEAUX. Flights to BERGERAC are available from Stansted, East Midlands, Bristol & Liverpool (Ryanair); Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Southampton and Exeter, (Flybe). Flights to BORDEAUX are available from Birmingham and Manchester (Bmibaby); Gatwick (British Airways); Bristol and Luton (Easyjet) Southampton (Flybe). Carcassonne, Toulouse and Biarritz are further away but can have cheap flights.

The best train station is Marmande (25mins drive) with fast trains from Bordeaux. Ste. Foy la Grande (20-25 mins) also has a station with trains from Bordeaux via Libourne.

For car hire from Bergerac airport see http://www.bergerac.aeroport.fr/index.php

If travelling by car, there is beautiful countryside to drive through but also fast, efficient motorways with toll charges. The nearest ferry port (apart from ones in north west Spain which are very expensive) is St. Malo which is 586km (*approx 6h15 driving time). Cherbourg is 746km (*approx 8 hours driving time) and Caen is 660km (*approx 7h15 driving time). The cheapest crossing is with Speedferries from Dover to Boulogne which is 842km (*approx 8h45 driving time). (*These times are based on routes recommended by www.viamichelin.com.)
