LA
LEGUE (
We act as agents for friends.) A beautifully restored farmhouse
on a hill, retaining all the character and charm of rural France,
converted into individually styled accommodation on the edge of
a small farming hamlet and set within its own 3 acres of meadow
and garden. On its own hill it has views across a rural idyll of
undulating fields, woods, orchards and vineyards. Set back from
the road and not overlooked, cars can be parked off the road and
out of sight of the house.
The
house is rustic in character with stone walls, wooden surfaces and
terracotta tiles, keeping it cool in summer months. Central heating
keeps it warm in the cooler months.
"
and,
after a day's exploring, a cold glass of local Sauvignon while looking
at the sunset brings home a sense of joy and peace
.."I
just wanted to drop you a line to let you know what a WONDERFUL
time we had at your house. It was absolutely lovely, peaceful and
serene." (Visitor's comment)
Originally
a farmhouse and barn, it has been painstakingly restored. The barn
is now the high ceilinged, oak-beamed living room with a minstrel's
gallery leading to the bedrooms. There is a large kitchen and the
number of other rooms provide a variety of accommodation for 6 people
but is also just as nice for 2. Each room has its own individuality
with doors and french windows giving access to the outside.
There
are poplars, fruit trees, and bamboo. A hedge with a wooden door
encloses a "breakfast" garden outside the kitchen. An
old wisteria grows along the veranda, providing shade for sitting
or eating outside. A weeping willow makes a focal point beside the
covered "sunset" patio. There is a tin bath and outside
shower for cooling off when it's hot and for real swimming there
is the leisure lake just down the valley. There is also a barbecue,
garden furniture and a hammock.
In
the garden there is plenty of nature, this is rural France! There
are birds, butterflies, lizards sunning themselves, tiny green tree
frogs, small preying mantis and the occasional toad. Frogs can sometimes
be heard against a background of cicadas and harmless bats can flicker
swiftly through the garden on a summer's evening. Wildflowers include
orchids, ladysmock, vetches, violets down by the small river, poppies,
cow parsley and buttercups in the fields.

2 Bathrooms : 1 with shower, washbasin, WC; 1 with bath,
washbasin, shower and WC; plus separate WC.

Iron.

The
roads are small and quiet, and there is no sound of distant motorways.
The countryside is beautiful and the villages picturesque. This
is an area renowned for its wine and food which can be experienced
in well priced restaurants or excellent produce can be bought in
local markets and shops. There are chateaux, old churches, caves,
rivers and famous vineyards (St. Emilion, Pomerol, Monbazillac,
Bergerac, Cotes de Duras).
The
local farms grow a variety of crops. There is wonderful blossom
in the orchards in spring and later harvests of plums, grapes, maize
or sunflowers. Each farm has vines which are good to walk through.
At the top of the hamlet is a forest for longer walks (in September
there are Cepes and Truffles - if you can find them!)
ACTIVITIES
For GOLF, there is an 18 hole course at Chateau des Vigiers,
Monestier (25km), 9 holes at Golf de Barthe, Tombeboeuf (25km),
and 10 holes at Golf de Marmande (20km).
CYCLING
is very popular as the countryside is ideal and French drivers tend
to respect cyclists - quiet country lanes and rolling, picturesque
country. There are several shops locally where you can hire bicycles.
TENNIS
COURTS can be found in St. Sernin de Duras (1.5km).
